The Master Mediator Institute is a non-profit organization that allows mediators, executives, negotiators and advocates to connect with leading scientists and academics to explore cutting edge theories about human behavior. MMI presents Immersion Courses for intellectually curious mediators and executives who seek a greater understanding about the science of decision making, neuroscience and human behavior. By expanding our knowledge and seeking to apply cutting edge theory to our practice as mediators, negotiators and facilitators of decision making, we enhance our ability to support people in conflict who are seeking resolution to difficult, painful, costly and complex problems often in risky and uncertain conditions.

Although our community is primarily composed of mediators we also welcome a wide range of professionals including lawyers, jury consultants, insurance adjustors, human resource professionals, family business advisers and leaders of non-profit organizations and corporations.

We believe mediation and negotiation are most effective when we seek to understand human behavior instead of trying to negotiate and resolve conflict around a model of the mythical rational man. Our Immersion Courses attract professionals who are interested in continual self-improvement and enhancement of their skills and knowledge by:

• Increasing the effectiveness of mediators and negotiators through a trans-disciplinary understanding of conflict and decision making with a focus on facilitated decision making under conditions of  risk and uncertainty
• Engaging in critical thinking about the complexities of human behavior and recent discoveries in neuroscience
• Understanding the dynamics of conflict resolution with a focus on complex and intractable disputes
• Exploring group creativity and problem solving
• Connect practitioners and academics so that cutting edge theory can be explored in practical applications
